What we do.
Ready to Go Green?
We provide a de-risked model for international solar companies to enter the Bangladesh market. Fundamentally, Direct Solar Fisheries Ltd (DSFL) is a company that provides the vital service of LAND AGGREGRATION. Plus, we set up solar fisheries as a simple but effective, eco system supporting an economic and social platform which complies with the Government’s ‘dual use’ land requirement. Providing alternative energy solutions in conjunction with infrastructure that provides local jobs and improves community development is both environmentally and economically sustainable.

BUSINESS MODEL
DSFL, provides a route for international solar companies to enter the Bangladeshi market in a big way. In our model, companies will pay for land already aggregated and vetted by a top legal or accounting firm and then simply handed over without the need for upfront investment. We set up a wholly owned subsidiary, a special purpose vehicle to purchase the land which, after doing their due diligence, the international company purchases all of the shares. This avoids paying land transfer taxes twice.
How it Works.
DSFL focuses on identifying vast amounts of low-lying land, typically submerged under water for over half of the year and negotiates the purchase of the land from multiple land owners.

We provide the solar company with specifications for land development to establish a large scale, state-of-the-art fisheries created alongside the solar company. DSFL provides a turnkey fisheries and community management solution for the solar company.

We also design the fisheries, take care of the solar site construction, design the fish processing plant, establish a supply chain, sales channels, a sales distribution network, provide transparent accounting for the business and we offer the international solar company a revenue share from any fish sales.

Interesting Facts
-
Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population of 167 million. Land is considered scarce and valuable.
-
There is a concern that communities will be forced to sell their land and will then have no means to support themselves in the future. Community engagement with Solar Projects is an important consideration when the Government awards Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
-
Solar projects in general require 4-5 acres per MW. Solar Fisheries projects require approximately 4.5 acres per MW.
-
The up-front civil engineering and construction costs of a Solar Fisheries project is approximately 3% more than a conventional solar project.
-
Having said that, the long-term fisheries income and increased power generation from the solar panels (due to the water below keeping them cooler) more than justifies the additional investment.

An important factor in our set up is community engagement through the fisheries business, providing scores of jobs with each project for local community members through the fisheries and the lines of infrastructure and supply chain. The fisheries infrastructure will include a processing facility, cold storage, transport, and distribution network for the sales of fish.
